We’re getting close to finishing the reworking of our first album , originally titled “Footsteps” ( now called “FIRST LIGHT”)

We’ve let the songs start from their original point but then let them grow musically and lyrically to represent who we are and where we are now but honouring the original spark and intention of the tracks…

We’re very excited and although Ashley and I wrote the album originally and are now re writing it  , we’ve invited Tim  , to add his guitar genius on some of the songs , after all we’re releasing it under the Dark Edge banner and Dark Edge will always be we three musketeers …

New Dark Edge Album First Light

Current track listing

1.the Veil , a track originally called ” I’m going out.. Starting out as a rebellious youth song its morphed into reaching out from this world to the next, across the veil.. A favourite theme of mine..

2. Turn to me.(originally ” blame the youth “,changing from synth pop to guitar-driven rock/pop , looking at that thin line between creativity and madness , rather than the sulky misunderstood angst of my early days…you can see why the lyrics had to change…

3.footsteps, originally the title track and one of the few to remain unchanged… Another early glimpse into questioning my mind and my relationships , feeling the energy and echoes of someone not necessarily physically there…

4- I see the faces – originally called the soldier/ I’m so alone… And has gone from a haunting Moody epic to synth rock with a completely different feel…I kept some lyrics but pointed them more towards experiences I was having at the time rather than a fictional tale of future war and suffering… Believe me it’s much easier on the ear and carries on the theme of understanding my spiritual journey…

5- to the ends of the earth..a brand new track , that touches on the strength and conviction of loving someone no matter what…

6. Love is love , originally ” loves disguise” ( and that line still exists ) this has become a slowed down anthemic epic rather than the depeche mode style original…we kept the original music but slowed it down and it created a totally new feel that demanded new melodies and lyrics to befit its new majesty…when Tim heard it , he could hear a slightly different course if action , so it may be that there are two versions of this song on the album…both , in my opinion are great tracks and are different enough to warrant inclusion…

7. Falling ( through the night )another song to have undergone major surgery but the result is far more satisfying than the original… Touching upon what is real , imagination and madness it ties in perfectly with the themes of the album …

8. (Saw you )in a dream , ( originally “when i saw you )a fast paced energetic song ( well at the time of writing…things change fast around here..)loosely based on the original, but it’s so different , we may include the re recorded demo as an extra track ( it has its roots firmly in the punky sound of the Jam ). The song itself is about the fact that I have dreamt about people before I met them and is dedicated to my wife who I have known before…

9 . splintered memories is still under construction , as its grown considerably and changed into” souls in motion ” , but it’s threatening to grow in another direction…

10. Pressure , this song was around at the time of the first release but wasn’t actually on it…we’ve rectified that mistake and beefed it up with more guitar and a funky bass… As for the lyrics well it’s er , about pressure… And remains lyrically , most remark ably unchanged…

11.as yet untitled , but may be a resurrected version of “mind wolves” or a compilation of early songs that nearly made it onto the album or actual demos/ recordings from 1983/84 presented in a radio station DJ style…lots of humour and snippets of songs , we were going to call “Radio Edge ” Since then I’ve written another song cataloguing the history of Dark Edge , so I may nick the title back… It’s all so incestuous…

This first re release will hopefully be accompanied by an album launch party / possible gig…along with long-awaited best of album “Union”
